THE BRIEF

H.H. Smith were successful in putting forward a practical workable solution for a complete new zonal heating system throughout St Peter’s Church. H.H. Smith were able to draw upon their extensive M & E experience and worked tirelessly with the client to achieve a specification which matched both their requirements and their budget. Works are to be undertaken in 2 phases, the installation of the new plant and then the decommissioning and removal of the old plant.

KEY POINTS

As a listed building, the need to work closely with the Heritage Architect’s team is vital to ensure the project’s compliance with all requirements of listed building status. The siting of the flue discretely positioned in the existing chimney is evidence of a considered approach. Use of the Church facilities has to be retained to ensure the building was operational at all times, for services, events and congregation requirements.

CHALLENGES

Energy efficiency was a key criteria for the client and zonal controls were installed. Access/egress, material deliveries, waste removal and site tidiness all need to be considered on a continual basis. H.H. Smith meet weekly with the client to review works ahead and building usage, close collaboration is vital for user satisfaction and to ensure the church stays operational.
