THE BRIEF

H.H. Smith were awarded the most recent Vets Now hospital project in the North West after a competitive tender process. Located just opposite the company’s head office on Bury Old Road, this award was a real coup. Works included the alteration of an existing vehicle showroom and workshop to create a new single storey veterinary referral hospital with associated car park. All existing internal blockwork walls and first floor mezzanine were demolished and new internal partitions constructed throughout. The necessary clean lines were achieved with robust management to ensure close attention to detail.

KEY POINTS

The project was heavily geared to high spec electrical and mechanical infrastructure and theatre equipment for the required functionality. A substantial air handling unit was installed internally which required bespoke lifting equipment to manoeuvre into position and detailed commissioning.

CHALLENGES

The projects short timescale and busy main road location required keen scheduling and phasing to enable works to be completed on schedule. Incoming services were only working 1 week before handover due to the Utility Company, which put pressure on the commissioning of equipment and services. H.H. Smith were delighted to complete the project on time to enable the official opening as planned.
